How to Manage Manure on your Property to Protect the Environment

Every day without fail and up to twelve times a day, your horse presents you will a nice pile of manure, adding up to 30 or so pounds by the end of each day. She won’t stop until she’s cold and stiff in the ground, so we have to deal with it, and deal with it we do.

Responsible manure management is very important so that we minimize any chance of damage to the local environment. We have several watershed systems in Newtown that are critical to our population and protecting them is of great importance. Dr. Jenifer Nadau, Equine Specialist and Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut will lead a very informative talk, discussing several different options for manure storage and removal as well as best practices that will help to protect the environment.
